Arizona state Senator Wendy Rogers proposed two bills and a resolution to change the state’s digital asset tax laws. One bill exempts virtual currency from taxation, another bans taxing blockchain node operators, and a resolution clarifies rules on digital asset property taxes. These changes require voter approval in 2026.
Arizona has a law allowing the government to claim abandoned digital assets. Rogers co-sponsored a Bitcoin reserve bill vetoed by the governor and plans to refile it. Arizona, New Hampshire, and Texas have digital asset reserve laws, while other states propose different crypto taxation approaches like Ohio and New York.
At the federal level, Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis submitted a bill proposing an exemption for digital asset transactions and capital gains under $300. Lummis announced she would retire from the Senate in January 2027. Different states are exploring various approaches to taxing and regulating digital assets.
