Bybit will phase out services for residents of Japan starting in 2026 to comply with regulatory requirements. Users incorrectly flagged will undergo additional identity checks. Bybit, the world’s second-largest crypto exchange by volume, processed $4.3 billion in trades in 24 hours. The exchange previously paused new user registrations in Japan.
Japan’s strict crypto oversight regime led the FSA to request Apple and Google to suspend downloads of unregistered exchanges, including Bybit. Bybit did not respond to requests for comment. Meanwhile, Bybit reenters the UK market after securing a license in the UAE. Japan’s regulations are pushing innovation out of the country.
