Avelo Airlines, known for connecting smaller cities, announced it will cease deportation flights for the U.S. government, cut commercial routes, and reduce staff. The decision follows backlash and protests over flying deportees for ICE. The airline will close bases in Arizona and North Carolina, focusing on locations in Connecticut, Florida, Delaware, and North Carolina instead.
As part of the changes, Avelo Airlines will return six Boeing 737-700 airplanes and close bases at North Carolina airports, leading to job cuts. The airline will concentrate on bases in Connecticut, Florida, Delaware, and North Carolina, as well as open a base near Dallas. The flight attendants’ union praised the end of ICE flights, hoping for a more stable future for Avelo staff.
