In early trading, Applied Materials led the Nasdaq 100 index with a 9.2% increase, totaling a 28.2% gain year to date. Strategy was the worst performer, down 3.1% but still up 14.3% for the year. Charter Communications fell 2.7%, while KLAC rose by 8.8% on the day.
