Abilene Motor Express, acquired by Knight Swift almost eight years ago, is now being folded into the Swift Transportation segment. President Larry Johnson cited the move as part of an effort to improve efficiency and streamline operations. Abilene drivers will transition to Swift, with operations continuing under the Abilene name until January 27.
Abilene, based in Richmond, VA, stated on its LinkedIn page that it operates with “nearly” 500 tractors. Knight Swift CEO Adam Miller emphasized that the transition reflects their commitment to operating efficiency and long-term success. The move marks the end of Abilene’s standalone status within Knight Swift, with drivers and customers being informed of the shift.
Knight Swift has not issued a formal statement on the absorption of Abilene Motor Express. The company’s internal communication stressed the alignment of operations for greater efficiency and reliable service. Abilene is one of several separate “logos” under Knight Swift, alongside brands like U.S. Xpress, ACT, and Barr-Nunn, among others.
The finality of Abilene’s integration into Swift was reinforced by Johnson, thanking team members for their dedication. The shift aims to create greater alignment across the Knight-Swift network for improved service. Despite the changes, Abilene drivers and customers can expect clear guidance and ongoing support throughout the transition process.
