UK supermarket chain Asda faces over 150 job cuts after weak Christmas trading pushed market share to a record low. The chain plans to remove 80 managerial posts and multiple warehouse roles in cost-cutting measures. Actions follow previous restructuring efforts under chairman Allan Leighton.

Asda’s market share fell to 11.4% with a 4.2% sales decline in the 12 weeks to 28 December. The only major UK supermarket to report a drop in Christmas trading, consultations are ongoing to determine final job cut numbers. Asda aims to stabilize performance and regain lost market share.

For Q3 2025, Asda recorded lower underlying sales of £5.1bn ($6.76bn) with a 2.8% like-for-like sales decrease. The decline was attributed to significant disruption from a large-scale technology upgrade, impacting trading. Asda appointed Cal Corcoran as group chief information officer, overseeing technology and data operations post-Walmart separation.
