Lean hog futures closed slightly lower on Friday, with February up 7 cents for the week. USDA reported a national base hog price of $83.56, while the CME Lean Hog Index was up to $83.07. Export sales totaled 33,249 MT of pork, with shipments at 39,223 MT. Cold storage data showed a decrease in pork stocks to 390.55 million lbs on Dec 31. Commitment of Traders data revealed an increase in managed money net long positions to 97,418 contracts. USDA’s pork carcass cutout value rose to $95.75 per cwt, with rib primal being the only exception. Feb, Apr, and May 26 Hogs closed slightly lower.
