Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell continues his congressional testimony on the economy and monetary policy. Powell expects interest rate cuts but won’t specify timing. Questions from lawmakers focus on monetary policy calibration and Basel III Endgame rules. Powell’s last appearance before the March 19-20 Fed meeting. Powell is reinforcing his position that the Fed isn’t ready to start cutting interest rates. In January, key inflation measure rose 0.4%, up 2.8% from last year. Fed’s Waller wants more evidence of cooling inflation before cutting rates.
