Starbucks is reintroducing tiers to its loyalty program in North America to boost coffee consumption as part of its turnaround strategy. The program, in place since 2009, accounts for 60% of the company’s revenue. The new tiered system will have three levels starting March 10, offering various rewards and benefits to members based on their points.

Green tier members with fewer than 500 stars get birthday perks, early menu access, and personalized offers. Gold tier members, earning 500 stars in a year, get points that never expire and earn 1.2 stars per dollar spent. Reserve tier members need 2,500 stars in a year, with 1.7 points per dollar spent, exclusive merchandise access, and event invites.

Starbucks Rewards members earn stars for every dollar spent and can redeem points for various rewards. The company also introduced new perks like “Free Mod Mondays” and a $2 discount option for 60 stars. The changes come after Starbucks reported growth in traffic from both Rewards and nonmember customers for the first time in four years.
