Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang plans to make a significant investment in OpenAI, potentially the largest ever. The chipmaker previously announced a plan to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI to maintain dominance in a competitive landscape. Reports surfaced that doubts were expressed internally about the deal, but Huang denies being unhappy with OpenAI.
Huang clarified that the original $100 billion agreement with OpenAI was non-binding and not finalized. He expressed concerns about OpenAI’s business approach and competition from Google and Anthropic. Huang emphasized his belief in OpenAI’s work and partnership with CEO Sam Altman, stating that Nvidia will make a substantial investment, potentially the largest ever.
Amazon is reportedly in talks to invest up to $50 billion in OpenAI, which is seeking to raise up to $100 billion in funding. The valuation of OpenAI is estimated at about $830 billion. Huang made these remarks after hosting Nvidia’s key suppliers in Taiwan, including TSMC, at a notable gathering dubbed the “trillion-dollar dinner” by Taiwanese media due to the combined market capitalization of attendees.
