United to pause pilot hiring, citing Boeing’s delivery delays
From CNBC:
United Airlines is pausing pilot hiring due to Boeing delivery delays. New hire classes will stop in May and June, expected to resume in July. Boeing faces production issues such as incorrectly drilled holes and missing bolts on new aircraft. United anticipates receiving fewer Boeing 737 Max models than contracted this year.
Other U.S. carriers are also slowing pilot growth due to a shortage of aviators, slow aircraft deliveries, and supply chain constraints from Boeing and Airbus. American Airlines hired 2,000 pilots last year and expects to add 1,300 this year. Delta Air Lines is halving pilot hiring, while Southwest Airlines will pause hiring after current classes.
