DOJ opens investigation into Alaska Airlines incident of door panel blowing out midair, WSJ says

From CNBC:

An investigation by the Justice Department is underway regarding an Alaska Airlines incident where a door panel blew out mid-air on Flight 1282. Passengers, pilots, and flight attendants are being contacted for information. The DOJ is reviewing if Boeing complied with a previous settlement related to 737 Max crashes.

Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 planes have resumed service after being grounded for inspections. Three passengers are suing Boeing and Alaska Airlines for $1 billion, citing negligence in ignoring warning signs related to the door panel incident. Alaska Airlines estimates a $150 million cost due to the grounding.

The DOJ and Boeing have declined to comment on the investigation. Alaska Airlines states they are fully cooperating and do not believe they are a target. United Airlines, the other US carrier flying the Max 9, faced cancellations in January. Passengers are seeking damages for the traumatic experience.
