Financial Sector Update for 03/11/2024: JRVR, MSTR, CB

Financial stocks were mixed on Monday, with the NYSE Financial Index down 0.2% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) up nearly 0.1%. The Philadelphia Housing Index dropped 0.6% and the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) decreased by 0.4%.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) saw a 5% increase, reaching $72,491, while the yield for 10-year US Treasuries remained steady at 4.09%. State-level data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed unemployment rates rising in four states, falling in two, and remaining the same in others.

James River (JRVR) filed a complaint against Fleming Intermediate in New York County Supreme Court’s Commercial Division, seeking completion of the acquisition of JRG Reinsurance. This move caused James River’s shares to drop by 15%. On the other hand, MicroStrategy (MSTR) closed its private placement of convertible notes, raising $800 million and leading to a 15% increase in its shares. Chubb (CB) saw a 2.1% rise after Keefe Bruyette & Woods raised its price target to $275 and maintained an outperform rating.
