Basin Electric Power Cooperative has chosen PCL as the general contractor for a new $4-billion natural gas-fired power plant in North Dakota. The 1,490-MW Bison Generation Station will help meet growing demand for power in the region. Construction is set to start soon, with commercial operation expected between 2029 and 2030.
The construction of the power plant is expected to create about 1,000 jobs, with 40 to 50 full-time staff needed once operational. PCL expressed excitement at being selected for the project, emphasizing their commitment to quality and safety. The Bison Generation Station is set to be a major player in North Dakota’s energy landscape.
PCL will work closely with Basin Electric and project partners to manage construction packages and ensure a safe and timely execution of the project. The Bison Generation Station will play a vital role in providing reliable and efficient power to Basin Electric’s members, driving economic growth in the region. Basin Electric recently completed the Pioneer Generation Station Phase IV, adding about 580 MW of gas-fired capacity.
