PyroGenesis Inc. has announced a non-binding memorandum of understanding to form a joint venture to operate a 1,000 tonne per year fumed silica production plant, with PyroGenesis building the fumed silica reactor for US$20.0 million. The JV Partner’s name is being withheld for competitive reasons, and the financing has already been secured. The JV would own and operate the system, with PyroGenesis involved in all negotiations. The formation of the JV is contingent upon successful negotiations and execution of definitive agreements by Q2 2026. The proposed fumed silica plant would be a commercial scale version of the current pilot plant designed by PyroGenesis, converting quartz into fumed silica in an eco-friendly manner, without hazardous by-products. The plant is expected to be delivered within 12 months of the JV formation, with potential for additional plants of the same or larger size. On-site production using the FSR plant would benefit manufacturers by streamlining logistics and securing reliable access to critical materials. PyroGenesis leverages plasma technology to provide advanced engineering solutions to heavy industry and defense challenges. HPQ Silicon Inc., PyroGenesis’ client, is focused on innovation in advanced materials and critical process development for energy storage, clean hydrogen, and advanced materials markets essential for global net-zero goals.
