Live cattle futures saw mixed trade, with Feb up 57 cents on Cash. Feeder cattle futures closed mostly lower, with March up 42 cents on Friday. Commitment of Traders data showed a decrease in spec fund net long positions for live cattle and feeder cattle futures. Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were mixed, with Choice down 37 cents and Select up 39 cents. USDA estimated cattle slaughter at 541,000 head for the week. Closing prices for live cattle futures ranged from $243.075 to $236.150, while feeder cattle futures closed between $366.150 and $359.425. Markets closed on Monday for President’s Day.
