Apple in talks to let Google’s Gemini power iPhone AI features, Bloomberg News says

From Nasdaq:

Apple is reportedly in talks to integrate Google’s Gemini AI engine into the iPhone, with discussions also held with OpenAI. The tech giant is seeking partners for generative AI capabilities in its upcoming iOS 18, aiming to enhance features like image creation and essay writing based on prompts.

Although terms and branding of any AI agreement have not been finalized, Apple is pushing forward with plans to incorporate generative AI, a practice its competitors have already embraced. CEO Tim Cook stated the company will reveal more about its generative AI plans later this year, showcasing significant investment in the area.

Apple and Google’s existing partnership includes Google as the default search engine on Apple’s Safari browser. However, the deal is under scrutiny amidst allegations of anticompetitive behavior, as Google allegedly paid billions to Apple and other partners to secure its search engine as the default option on various devices.

Google has also teamed up with Samsung to implement generative AI technology in the upcoming Galaxy S24 series of smartphones. This move comes as tech companies continue to explore AI integration in their products, enhancing user experiences with advanced capabilities.
