China-based Canadian stole Tesla secrets, say US prosecutors

A Canadian resident of China has been arrested in the United States for allegedly stealing Tesla’s trade secrets and attempting to sell them to undercover officers. Klaus Pflugbeil, operator of a China-based electric vehicle technology business, was apprehended in New York. Pflugbeil, along with associate Yilong Shao, utilized secrets from a U.S.-based electric vehicle company, possibly linked to Tesla’s acquisition of Canadian firm Hibar in 2019. Pflugbeil was set to appear in Brooklyn federal court, while Shao remained at large.
