OpenAI might launch GPT-5 with improved capabilities mid-this year
From Future plc.:
OpenAI is set to release a new and improved version of ChatGPT, GPT-5, with enhanced capabilities. The model will allow users to call AI agents developed by OpenAI to perform tasks autonomously, making work more efficient. Early access to GPT-5 has been granted to a select group of enterprise customers for testing and feedback.
Comparing GPT-5 to its predecessor, GPT-4, one CEO described the new model as “materially better.” The model is still in development and undergoing training, with internal tests planned before wider release. ChatGPT has faced challenges with declining user base and accuracy since GPT-4, leading to potential adjustments in the release timeline.
As GPT-5 progresses, tests will determine any needed improvements before public release. Concerns have been raised regarding ChatGPT’s declining performance and legal battles OpenAI is facing. The new model’s ability to handle copyrighted material will be important, as previous challenges related to copyright infringement have arisen.
