OpenAI’s GPT-5 release could be as early as this summer

OpenAI is set to release GPT-5, a highly-anticipated new large language model, this summer. Enterprise customers who have accessed the demo say it surpasses GPT-4. Red-teaming for ethical and safety testing will determine the release date. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman hyped the model’s significant improvement over GPT-4 in a recent podcast. Google, Microsoft, and Apple are incorporating generative AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini into their products, with potential talks of Gemini being added to the iPhone.OpenAI is facing controversies over lack of transparency in how their video generator, Sora, was trained, and multiple copyright infringement lawsuits from news outlets like The New York Times and The Intercept, Raw Story, and AlterNet. Elon Musk, an early investor, has also filed a lawsuit against OpenAI for its complex non-profit, for-profit status.
