SK hynix Inc. plans to invest $3.87 billion in West Lafayette, Indiana for an advanced packaging fab and R&D facility for AI products, creating over a thousand new jobs. The facility will mass-produce High-Bandwidth Memory for AI systems like ChatGPT.

Production is set to start in the second half of 2028, with plans for future chip generations and an advanced packaging R&D line. SK hynix will collaborate with Purdue University and Ivy Tech to develop training programs for a high-tech workforce.

In addition to the Indiana investment, SK hynix will invest 120 trillion won in the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster in Korea, with plans to start construction in March 2025 and completion in early 2027. Plans include building a mini fab for testing semiconductor materials.
