YouTube CEO warns OpenAI training models on its videos is against the rules

YouTube CEO Neal Mohan stated that using videos on the platform to train an AI model is a violation of terms after OpenAI’s CTO was unsure if Sora was trained on YouTube content. The lack of clarity on training data has led to lawsuits, including one by comedian Sarah Silverman and others, alleging copyright infringement.

OpenAI has faced multiple lawsuits over its use of training data for AI tools, including Sora. The firm has been accused of using copyrighted material without permission, prompting legal action from various parties, including The New York Times. Despite these lawsuits, OpenAI reportedly plans to use YouTube video transcripts for training its ChatGPT-5 model.
