Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced an increase in compensation packages for the AI engineering team in response to OpenAI’s efforts to poach engineers. Musk confirmed the pay raise while addressing a report that a Tesla engineer was planning to join xAI, Musk’s AI company. OpenAI has not commented on the incident.

As the competition for AI talent heats up, tech companies like Meta and Google are reportedly offering lucrative salaries and personal appeals to attract engineers. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been personally emailing AI researchers at Google’s DeepMind, offering jobs without interviews. Google co-founder Sergey Brin also made promises to convince an employee not to leave for OpenAI, including higher pay. Musk described the talent war for AI as the craziest he’s ever seen.
