The UK economy grew as expected in February, with GDP rising by 0.1% from January, in line with consensus. Industrial production also increased by 1.1% on a monthly basis, exceeding expectations. On an annual basis, industrial production improved by 1.4% in February, with a narrowing trade deficit and improved export performance.

The FTSE 100 index opened up, reflecting positive economic data. However, concerns remain about areas of the economy dependent on discretionary spending, such as accommodation, food, and construction. Analysts suggest that an interest rate cut could support these sectors, despite overall GDP growth in February. Wet weather may have impacted certain industries.
