Daimler Truck reached a new labor agreement with UAW representing over 7,300 workers, avoiding a strike at the last minute. The deal includes a 25% wage increase over four years, immediate 10% raise, cost-of-living adjustments, profit-sharing, job security, improved benefits, and the end of wage tiers among other provisions.
Workers at four Daimler Truck factories in North Carolina, along with parts warehouses in Georgia and Tennessee, had previously voted to authorize a strike in March. The UAW also filed unfair labor practice charges against the company, leading to the recent negotiations and agreement.
UAW has shifted focus to organizing non-union plants, including recent successes at Volkswagen in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and upcoming voting at a Mercedes facility in Vance, Alabama. The latest agreement sets a precedent for fair wages, benefits, and job security across the industry.
