Microsoft is reportedly developing an in-house AI language model, overseen by ex-Googler, Mustafa Suleyman, to compete with Google and OpenAI. The model, internal codenamed MAI-1, is said to be larger than previous models developed by Microsoft and will have about 500 billion parameters, requiring significant computing power and training data.
This move is significant as Microsoft has previously relied on large language models from OpenAI. MAI-1 is expected to be showcased at Microsoft’s Build developer conference. This marks Microsoft’s first major AI model initiative since investing over $10 billion in OpenAI, showing a shift towards independent AI development.
