Apple is in talks with OpenAI to use ChatGPT on the iPhone’s next iOS 18 operating system, potentially beating Google and Anthropic to become Apple’s first AI partner. Apple is also reportedly working on its own AI chip for data centres to enhance chatbot capabilities.

The deal with OpenAI could see new AI features on the iPhone, potentially announced at WWDC in June. The update is expected to support iPhone 11 and newer models, possibly dropping support for older models like iPhone X and iPhone 8 series.

ChatGPT is a conversational AI chatbot developed by OpenAI that Apple may integrate into its devices. Apple is exploring the balance of on-device versus cloud-powered AI and faces challenges to catch up with competitors already offering conversational AI on phones and laptops.
