Flying is cheaper in 2024. But not for some destinations

Airline fares have fallen for American travelers this summer, but prices remain high for certain regions like Asia and South America. Fares to Europe are down 8%, but some cities in Germany and Slovakia have seen prices soar. Flight costs in the U.S. dropped 5.8% from April 2023 to April 2024, with a further 1% decrease in the past month.
Last year’s high prices have eased, but airline fees, like increased checked-bag fees by major carriers, are impacting overall trip costs. Despite some price hikes, travelers can save by booking early, being flexible with travel dates, and utilizing rewards like frequent flier miles and travel insurance from credit cards.
