Microsoft is launching Copilot+ PCs, a new category of computers powered by AI PC chips and running Windows 11 with Copilot AI software. The new AI PCs will run on OpenAI’s GPT-4o model, enabling users to interact with their PCs via text, video, and voice.

According to IDC, PC shipments grew 1.5% in the first quarter, a positive sign for the PC market. Microsoft expects over 50 million AI PCs to be purchased over the next year. Copilot+ PCs come equipped with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for optimal performance.

In a demo, Copilot was able to assist a user in playing Minecraft by guiding them through crafting a sword. Microsoft emphasized the performance advantages of Copilot+ PCs over Apple devices, showcasing better battery life and computing power. The software will be featured in products from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung.

The announcement comes ahead of Apple’s expected launch of AI features across its product lines at WWDC. Microsoft’s push for AI in PCs is part of a broader trend in the industry towards integrating AI into everyday computing experiences.
