Google's new AI Overview feature is giving inaccurate and potentially dangerous search results

Google’s new “AI Overview” feature, using artificial intelligence, gives inaccurate and potentially dangerous search results according to social media users. One example includes a suggestion to mix glue into cheese on pizza. The feature also provided a recipe for mustard gas when asked about sanitizing a washing machine, raising concerns.
Critics point out that Google’s overview feature plagiarizes content, adding phrases like “my kid’s favorite” to recipes without permission. The feature was developed in response to Microsoft and Open AI’s Bing CoPilot for incorporating smaller sites into search results. However, critics worry it may hurt original content providers by preventing click-through traffic.
The News Media Alliance calls for action against AI models that use content without permission, claiming AI companies rely on high-quality content for training. Google’s disclaimer states “generative AI is experimental,” but the AI-generated results challenge the current reliance on computer-generated content. Users are encouraged to consider alternative search engines that prioritize unbiased search results.
