Wegovy reduces kidney-related events by 22% in overweight and obese individuals

Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy obesity drug showed a 22% reduction in kidney-related events in overweight and obese individuals. Professor Helen M. Colhoun mentioned that semaglutide may decrease the risk of kidney complications. The drug is also beneficial for those without diabetes but with a high risk of kidney issues. The study revealed significant benefits in kidney function with semaglutide, supporting its use beyond diabetes and weight loss treatments. Additionally, there was no increased risk of acute kidney injury associated with semaglutide. Novo’s Select trial tested Wegovy’s heart protective benefits for overweight and obese patients with preexisting heart disease but not diabetes. A recent analysis confirmed Ozempic’s effectiveness in slowing kidney dysfunction in type 2 diabetes patients, reducing risks of kidney failure, heart issues, stroke, and death.
