Richard Sherman, the man behind beloved Disney songs like “It’s a Small World” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” passed away at 95 in Beverly Hills, CA, from an age-related illness. Sherman, part of the famous songwriting team “the Sherman Brothers,” won two Oscars, three Grammy Awards, and wrote over 200 songs.
Disney CEO Bob Iger praised Sherman as a Disney Legend, calling his songs a cherished part of our lives. Sherman, who studied music at Bard College, served in the US Army before his successful career in songwriting. He was awarded the National Medal of the Arts and inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Survived by his wife Elizabeth and son Gregory, Richard Sherman, half of the Sherman Brothers songwriting duo, has passed away at 95. Plans for a public service have not been announced. The brothers wrote for Disney classics and non-Disney films like “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” winning two Oscars, three Grammy Awards, and induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
