Tesla recalls over 125,000 vehicles in US due to faulty seat belt warning system

Tesla is recalling over 125,000 cars in the U.S. due to a seat belt warning system issue. This affects Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y vehicles manufactured between 2012 and 2023. The vehicles have a faulty seat belt reminder system that may not activate when needed, increasing the risk of injury in a collision.

An open trace in the driver seat occupancy switch is causing the loss of audible and visual seat belt reminders in certain vehicles. Tesla identified the issue through an investigation and reported 104 warranty claims possibly linked to the condition. Despite no reported collisions or injuries, Tesla is taking proactive steps to address the problem.

Affected vehicles will receive a free over-the-air software update starting in June 2024 to fix the seat belt reminder issue. The remedy will eliminate the reliance on the driver seat occupancy switch and only use the seat belt buckle and ignition status to activate the reminder signals. Tesla aims to enhance safety and prevent future incidents with this solution.
