Microsoft is integrating OpenAI technology with partners like Amadeus for travel industry applications

Microsoft is investing in generative AI, with Amadeus being a key partner for travel industry integration. The tech behind ChatGPT has enabled AI initiatives with companies like Amadeus. Microsoft’s global director of travel will speak at the Skift Data+AI Summit in NYC about recent collaborations. OpenAI has released a new AI model, GPT-4o, now available on Azure. Microsoft showcased a virtual agent using GPT-4o for personalized trip recommendations and shopping assistance.

Amadeus and Microsoft have been strategic partners since 2021, collaborating on projects fueled by OpenAI tech, like the airline sales platform Nevio. Microsoft is testing natural language corporate travel booking within Teams through Cytric Easy. Other joint projects include automated airline crew rescheduling and personalized passenger website homepages. Thousands of Amadeus employees are using Microsoft Copilot for internal tasks.

Marriott Bonvoy introduced an AI search tool for vacation rentals under Homes & Villas, developed with Microsoft Azure’s OpenAI. The tool allows users to search for properties based on descriptive prompts like family-friendly nature getaways in specific locations. Marriott Bonvoy has over 100,000 Homes & Villas listings focusing on premium luxury rentals.

Air India debuted a generative AI chatbot on its website, later extended to WhatsApp, answering 80% of daily inquiries on travel topics in multiple languages. The chatbot, AI.g, can assist with bookings, flight status checks, baggage policies, and provide destination suggestions. Users can also receive personalized itineraries as downloadable PDFs through the chatbot.
