Nvidia and other tech giants driving U.S. equity market to record highs

A few giant stocks, such as Nvidia and Microsoft, are driving the record highs in the U.S. equities market, with 60% of the S&P 500’s total return being fueled by just five companies. Nvidia alone has accounted for a third of the index’s gains. While some investors believe these companies deserve their market heft due to strong earnings and competitive positions, there are concerns that the concentration of gains in a few powerhouses could threaten indexes should they start to falter. The top four stocks in the index now make up nearly a quarter of the S&P 500, presenting a risk of vulnerability in case of a downturn.
