OpenAI has solely relied on Microsoft for compute, with Microsoft investing $13 billion. The Oracle deal shows the need for more compute to meet demand and prevent outages. Microsoft and OpenAI emphasize that their cloud relationship remains unchanged, clarifying that the partnership with Oracle is for additional infrastructure to run AI models. Pre-training of models still occurs on supercomputers built with Microsoft’s partnership.
