Apple is facing a class action lawsuit in California from over 12,000 female employees who claim they are paid less than men in comparable positions. The lawsuit alleges systematic underpayment based on starting pay, biased performance evaluations, and widening gender pay gaps perpetuated by Apple’s practices.

Apple denies the allegations, stating a commitment to inclusion and pay equity, partnered with third-party experts to maintain gender pay equity since 2017. Plaintiffs are represented by class action law firms with a track record of securing massive settlements in sex bias cases against other companies.

The lawsuit further accuses Apple of violating California’s Equal Pay Act and state laws prohibiting workplace sex bias and unfair business practices. It alleges that Apple uses applicants’ pay expectations to set salaries, perpetuating wage disparities and disproportionately rewarding male employees for being deemed of high talent.

In addition to the claims of unequal pay, one plaintiff, Justina Jong, also accuses Apple of refusing to transfer her to a different team after she reported sexual harassment by a coworker. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and penalties for the alleged violations.
