OpenAI appoints ex-NSA chief Paul Nakasone to board for cybersecurity expertise

OpenAI appointed retired US Army General Paul Nakasone to its board of directors, leveraging his cybersecurity expertise. Nakasone, former head of NSA and US Cyber Command, will join the Safety and Security Committee to ensure secure AI innovation. This move aligns with OpenAI’s goal of ensuring AI benefits humanity, as mentioned by board chair Bret Taylor. The addition of Nakasone comes after earlier board enhancements in March. CEO Sam Altman returned to the board following an investigation, joined by Sue Desmond-Hellmann, Nicole Seligman, and Instacart CEO Fidji Simo. OpenAI stated that as AI technology advances towards artificial general intelligence, the company becomes more resistant to cyber threats over time.
