Private equity firm Carlyle is looking to sell Cogentrix, a power producer in North Carolina, for up to $3-4 billion. Interest in utility firms is growing due to technological advances like AI and data centers. Lazard and Latham & Watkins are advising on the sale. Other power assets are also up for sale. Cogentrix has over 70 diverse energy assets, and recent deals in the sector include the $6.2 billion privatization of U.S. utility Allete by Global Infrastructure Partners and CPP Investments.
