ChatGPT, OpenAI’s popular text-generating AI chatbot, has garnered widespread adoption, with over 92% of Fortune 500 companies using it. OpenAI’s partnership with Apple for the Apple Intelligence AI offering has further solidified their position in the industry. The release of GPT-4o, OpenAI’s new flagship omni model, comes with voice and vision capabilities, but faces controversy over mimicry allegations.
Scarlett Johansson has been invited to testify at a House Oversight Subcommittee hearing about the ‘Sky’ voice controversy related to OpenAI. ChatGPT recently experienced two outages in a single day, impacting user experience. OpenAI has also signed deals with publishers like The Atlantic and Vox Media and announced a partnership with management consulting firm PwC.
OpenAI has started training its flagship model to succeed GPT-4 and is restructuring its safety and security committee. Former board member Helen Toner revealed that the board was unaware of ChatGPT until its launch in 2022. The launch of GPT-4o saw a significant spike in mobile app revenue, driving subscriptions to the premium ChatGPT Plus tier.
Following concerns around one of ChatGPT’s voices sounding like Scarlett Johansson, OpenAI has decided to remove and pause its usage. Users can now upload files from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive directly into ChatGPT for data analysis. A new partnership with Reddit will provide unique content for AI training, and OpenAI is developing a tool to allow content creators to opt out of AI training.
