Ilya Sutskever, co-founder of OpenAI, left the AI startup to start his own company, Safe Superintelligence (SSI), focusing on safe AI development. The Superalignment team at OpenAI, led by Sutskever and Jan Leike, dissolved after their departures. Sutskever aims to prioritize safety in AI at his new venture, SSI, alongside Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy, with offices in Palo Alto and Tel Aviv.

At OpenAI, Sutskever was involved in an attempt to oust Sam Altman as CEO in November. Following Altman’s brief removal and reinstatement, Sutskever publicly apologized for his role. He expressed regret over his participation in the board’s actions and vowed to do his best to reunite the company. Microsoft faces competition after Apple and OpenAI collaboration.
