OpenAI has acquired Rockset Inc., known for their high-speed database platform, to improve data indexing and querying for AI applications. Rockset’s technology will be integrated into OpenAI’s platform, providing customers with better AI application capabilities. Rockset raised $44 million in August 2023 and enhanced its vector-search capabilities to enable AI applications at scale.

Rockset’s CEO, Venkat Venkataramani, believes the acquisition will make AI more accessible and beneficial to developers and enterprise businesses. The company’s advancements in vector-search capabilities allow AI and machine learning algorithms to understand contextual relationships better, making LLMs and recommendation engines more accurate. This will streamline metadata keyword and vector searches in the same query, ultimately saving time for AI applications.
