OpenAI’s New Acquisition: Multi, A Video-First Collaboration Startup for Enterprise Solutions : Tech : Tech Times

OpenAI acquired Multi, a workplace video collaboration startup previously called Remotion. Five employees will join OpenAI after CEO Alexander Embiricos shuts down the platform on July 24, 2024. Embiricos expressed excitement about Multi joining OpenAI and thanked users for their support. Multi received $13 million from Greylock and First Round Capital.

OpenAI’s revenue is expected to exceed $3.4 billion this year with the acquisition of Multi and enterprise projects. ChatGPT’s corporate tier has 600,000 users, including 93% of Fortune 500 companies. OpenAI recently bought enterprise analytics company Rockset to enhance product retrieval infrastructure. Financial details of the Rockset acquisition were not disclosed.

Rockset’s architecture will enhance OpenAI’s real-time data processing and vector search capabilities, improving AI models’ speed and accuracy. Rockset will help OpenAI solve AI apps’ database problems. The acquisition will empower companies to transform data into actionable intelligence. Rockset CEO Venkat Venkataramani highlighted the benefits of the integration in a blog post.

OpenAI’s CTO, Mira Murati, emphasized AI’s collaborative potential and dismissed fears about AI replacing creative jobs. Murati believes AI can assist in creative domains, boosting education and creativity. Despite concerns about AI impacting employment in Hollywood and other industries, Murati sees AI as a tool to assist humans in brainstorming and ideation.
