Time magazine partners with OpenAI to utilize AI technology for content distribution

Time magazine has partnered with OpenAI to bring its content to generative AI products like ChatGPT. OpenAI will access Time’s archives of over 101 years for its AI products. Time, founded in 1923, has a print subscriber base of 1.1 million and recently dropped its paywall. The partnership aims to expand access to trusted information globally.

In January, Time’s edit union reported 15 percent of members faced layoffs in a cut. Time’s COO, Mark Howard, expressed the importance of innovation in delivering trusted journalism. OpenAI has also partnered with The Atlantic and other news outlets. Time has introduced AI features like Deep Dive for content recommendations and AI-generated audio versions of articles on their website. Brad Lightcap, COO of OpenAI, emphasizes supporting reputable journalism through proper attribution.
