US stock futures rise as investors await labor data and Fedspeak, with uncertainty over elections

U.S. stock index futures rose as investors awaited key labor market readings and comments from Federal Reserve officials this week. Data showed inflation remained sticky in May, while uncertainty over the 2024 Presidential elections added to market jitters. S&P 500 futures rose 0.2%, Nasdaq futures rose 0.2%, and Dow futures rose 0.1%.

Fed officials, labor data, and interest rates are in focus this week, with comments from Fed Chair Jerome Powell expected on Tuesday at the European Central Bank’s annual forum. Wednesday will see the release of the FOMC minutes, offering more insight into interest rate decisions.

Fed officials remained committed to reaching the 2% inflation target before considering any interest rate adjustments. On Friday, key labor market data for June will provide further clarity on the job market’s resilience, another factor influencing the Fed’s decision-making process.

Wall Street closed lower on Friday amidst holiday trade, with indexes near record highs but trading rangebound. The upcoming Independence Day holiday on Thursday will shorten the trading week. S&P 500 fell 0.4%, Nasdaq fell 0.8%, and Dow fell 0.1% on Friday.

Boeing Co was in focus after reports stated the planemaker had agreed to buy Spirit Aerosystems Holdings Inc for $4.7 billion, driving attention to individual stock movements amidst broader market trends.
