OpenAI was hacked last year, with a hacker accessing internal messaging and stealing AI technology details. Executives informed employees and the board but didn’t disclose to the public due to lack of customer/partner information. No announcement was made as hackers were believed to be private individuals, not linked to governments.

In response to possible misuse, OpenAI disrupted five covert influence operations in May. The Biden administration plans to protect US AI tech from China and Russia with restrictions. 16 companies have pledged to safely develop AI technology, as regulators struggle to keep up with rapid innovations and risks.
