Microsoft requires Chinese employees to use iPhone 15 for authentication due to security concerns

Starting September 2024, Microsoft’s employees in China and Hong Kong must use an iPhone 15 for authentication due to restricted access to Google Play Store. This security measure aims to combat breaches, like the 2023 incident affecting Outlook email accounts, and promote cybersecurity awareness through mandatory Microsoft apps on Apple devices.

In response to security breaches, Microsoft is enforcing a policy requiring Chinese-based employees to use Apple devices for identity verification. This decision follows unauthorized access by Chinese and Russian hacker groups to company systems, leading Microsoft to prioritize cybersecurity. Employees using Android phones will receive an iPhone 15 to access work devices securely, as per protocol.

Microsoft’s push for stricter security measures includes requiring Chinese employees to use an iPhone 15 for authentication. This is in response to past breaches, like the Russian group infiltrating senior executives’ email accounts, and aligns with the company’s focus on bolstering cybersecurity. Employees will receive their new iPhones at designated locations within Microsoft’s Chinese facilities.
