EU regulators accept Apple's commitments to open up mobile payments system to rivals

EU regulators have accepted Apple’s commitments to allow rivals access to its “tap-and-go” payments technology on iPhones to address concerns over competition. This decision comes after a formal antitrust investigation into Apple’s behavior in June 2020. Apple’s Apple Pay mobile wallet will no longer be the exclusive option for iPhone users in the European Economic Area. Apple has until July 25 to implement these changes, which will be in effect for 10 years.
