Bob Iger and Willow Bay will take control of Angel City Football Club, the world’s most valuable women’s professional sports team, with an undisclosed investment valuing the team at $250 million. They will also invest an additional $50 million for future growth, meeting the NWSL’s requirement of a minimum 35% ownership. Last year, Angel City FC led in revenue, attendance, and sponsorship. The ACFC Board of Directors praised Bay and Iger as the right partners to lead the team forward. Angel City FC was founded in 2020 by Natalie Portman, Kara Nortman, and Julie Uhrman. The ownership group includes sports icons like Billie Jean King and Abby Wambach, emphasizing female ownership and equal pay for women. Alexis Ohanian had been the club’s controlling owner but tensions over finances led to the sale. All existing owners will remain with the team. Willow Bay, a lifelong sports fan and dean at USC Annenberg, is committed to advancing equity for athletes and women-founded businesses with this investment.
