The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, funded by the BMG Foundation Trust, has issued nearly $78 billion in grants to combat poverty, support health and education, and fight inequities globally. The trust returned 47% over three years, with 50% of its $46 billion portfolio invested in Microsoft and Waste Management.

Microsoft dominates the software industry with Azure’s CIPS strength and AI innovation, driving revenue growth in the third quarter of fiscal 2024. Wall Street expects 14% earnings growth annually, but its current valuation is considered expensive at 38.3 times earnings. Investors are advised to start with a small position and buy more at lower valuations.

Waste Management, the largest waste services provider in North America, benefits from its essential services and pricing power due to regulatory hurdles. It has outperformed the S&P 500 in bear markets since 2000, with 5.5% revenue growth but a high valuation of 36.5 times earnings. Investors are encouraged to wait for a discounted price before investing.
